Melton Mowbray

Melton Mowbray, the renowned Rural Capital of Food is famed for its local produce including Stilton Cheese and the Melton Mowbray Pork pie.  Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, located in the centre of the market town has been baking the famous pork pies for 170 years.

A number of food festivals are organised in the town, including the Artisan Cheese Fair, PieFest and ChocFest during the year.  

The beautiful St Mary’s Church in Melton Mowbray hosts the Christmas Tree Festival each year, with over 200 trees stunningly displayed.

Farmers Markets are held every Tuesday at the Stockyard in Melton Mowbray

Fair Farm Hideaway is nestled away on our 3rd generation working family farm, situated on the edge of the village of Waltham on the Wolds in rural Leicestershire.

WALTHAM ON THE WOLDS

Waltham on the Wolds village is located in the north-east corner of Leicestershire in the East Midlands.  It lies 5 miles north-east of Melton Mowbray and 11 miles south-west of Grantham, Lincolnshire on the main A607 road.

Situated on a ridge overlooking the Vale of Belvoir, many of the properties were owned by the Duke of Rutland’s Belvoir Estate until 1921 when they were sold.

Waltham has a traditional country pub, the Royal Horseshoes dating back to the mid 15th Century, a post office with convenience store selling groceries and newspapers and The Vale hair salon.

Vale of Belvoir

Waltham on the Wolds is located close to the beautiful Vale of Belvoir, where the magnificent Belvoir Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland stands proudly.  Built in the early part of the 19th Century it is well worth a visit hosting a wide range of events throughout the year. 

Belvoir Castle has featured in a number of films including the Da Vinci Code and the Young Victoria in addition to the Netflix series The Crown. 

The Engine Yard, a retail ‘village’ nestled below the Castle organises a number of events throughout the year too.

Rutland Water

Rutland Water, one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe is set in 3000 acres of beautiful rolling countryside.

Activities include sailing at Rutland Watersports, Whitwell, fishing on the lake, cycling around the 23 mile circular route, bird watching at the Nature Reserve, walking and running with a local park run organised on a regular basis from  the iconic Normanton Church.

Other gems to visit in the area include the outstanding town of Stamford, one of the finest Georgian towns in England, a popular choice for period productions including the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice, The Da Vinci Code and The Crown.   

Stamford has a variety of speciality shops and a great choice of places to eat.

Oakham is another charming English market town, with numerous shops and eateries.  Oakham has a Castle and many other heritage features.   Close to Rutland Water it is well worth a visit.
